Online Safety
Filtering
Stramongate uses Watchguard as its firewall and filtering provider to mitigate the risks when our children are online. Watchguard uses a continuously updated series of keywords and watchwords to filter the content of the internet from any of the machines within the school system.
Monitoring
Monitoring checks occur on a frequent basis. Computers/laptops/I-pads throughout the school are checked to ensure that the filtering system is working correctly and blocking inappropriate content. We use testfiltering.com to test that our filtering system is working. In addition, we search browsing history to monitor what children have been looking for on the net. These checks are recorded and kept up to date. Class teachers physically monitor when children are taking part in online activities.
Systems IT, provide our IT services and support, making weekly site visits and 12 hour remote access. They do an annual Disaster Recovery desktop exercise to check our cyber security protection and back up systems.
Online Safety depends on effective practice at a number of levels:
- Responsible ICT use by all staff and students; encouraged by education and made explicit through published policies;
- Sound implementation of online safety policy in both administration and curriculum, including secure school network design and use;
- Safe and secure internet provision.
